COLIN KENNEDY

WRITTEN BY PRZM_Admin

What’s your name, age, and preferred pronouns?

I’m Colin Kennedy, I use (he/him) pronouns and I’m 18 years old.

Where are you from?

I’m from a small town on the outskirts of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

How would you identify?

Nothing resonates with me more than the phrase “I contain multitudes”. Even my closest friends are constantly finding out new things about me that seem to surprise them. I like that, being unpredictable. 🙂

What will Gen Z be remembered for?

Gen Z will be remembered as the product of years of social change and progress. I hope that Gen Z will be remembered for our response to the climate crisis, as it becomes increasingly clear that nobody else will do the work for us. No matter what– it is an exciting time to be a teenager right now.

I see you barely use your social media accounts, What is your relationship with social media?

I’m not much of a poster! I actually deleted Instagram over the summer just because I realized I couldn’t care less about any of the content I was seeing. I’m an avid Twitter user, but I mainly keep to the sidelines there as well. While part of my social media silence is due to my consciousness about having a large digital footprint, I also just don’t think my daily life is interesting enough for the internet.

In what ways do you find valuable connections with others if not through the internet?

I’ve really grown to appreciate and find value in the smallest interactions. Just keeping in touch with old friends through the internet is so nice, even if it’s just the occasional check-in. It’s nice to know that people are still around even if you aren’t in daily contact.

With an interest in journalism and entertainment how do you stay tapped into those spaces?

I read like crazy. With the Internet, journalists don’t have to be focused on breaking news as much, which leaves them with the freedom to just write about more niche, interesting things they find.

Share with us an impactful article you’ve read recently and why you found it impactful.

The NYT has a great breakdown of who is getting covid and where, and the top outbreak centers besides nursing homes are prisons and food processing plants. Nobody really wants to talk about these outbreaks because it starts a really difficult conversation about why we are ok with certain human beings living in such terrible conditions in the first place. It’s easier just to blame beach-goers and college students.

What does the word “luxurious” mean to you?

I think luxury is an interesting concept. You ask 10 different people what they perceive as luxurious and you will get 10 different answers. 9 times out of ten, “luxury” has more to do with marketing than anything else.

What does the word free mean to you?

Feeling free means letting go of whatever is holding you back. I always feel bad for people who are super pretentious about music and artists. I just want to tell them to forget whatever they think is “cool” and listen to what makes them happy!

And last but not least of our word association game, what is one word you’d use to describe 2020?

Turbulent.

Hailing from the suburbs right outside of Philadelphia, Colin Kennedy isn’t worried about the noise of the world. He’s getting back to basics; opting for reading instead of scrolling on Instagram, quietly observing tweets without grand declarations of thought, etc. Balance is what Colin is after, and he plans on seeking that ever-evasive balance for as long as he feels.
